Attention: Policy Clarification

The definition of financial interest in the Conflict of Commitment and Interest (COI) Policy was clarified in response to the National Institutes of Health’s (NIH) recent communications to the research community at large and to its grantee institutions regarding investigator disclosures of foreign interests. In these communications, NIH clarifies its existing financial conflict of interest regulation found at 42 CFR Part 50, Subpart F. The revisions to Tulane’s Policy mirror NIH’s clarifications.

The following editorial changes were also made to the COI Policy:

• Adding the term Contractor to the term Vendor to maintain consistency with the Uniform Guidance (a government-wide framework for grants management).
• Revision to how COI committee meetings can be held.
• Update to titles (which are obsolete or have changed) in the definition of Designated Officials.
• Correction to a sentence in the definition of Financial Interest which inadvertently excluded Faculty & Staff Members.
